I've always been a reader, ever since I was a wee thing. But from time to time I fall off the wagon and go months without reading a book.

Well, since Christmas I'm back on the wagon. I read both books I received from my parents for Christmas:
-Historic South End Halifax. -Peter McGuigan.
And
-A Maritimer's Miscellany. Clary Croft.

I'm also half way through one of the two books I got myself as Post-Christmas Gifts:
-Sex with Kings. -Elanor Herman. ...and when that is done, I'll be reading:
-Much Depends on Dinner. -Margaret Visser.

...and then once that's done I'll read the five books I picked up today at Chapters with gift cards I got for Christmas:
-Lamb. The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. (great title eh?)
-A Dirty Job.
-You Suck. A Love Story. ...all three by Christoper Moore. (I can't remember where I heard about him, but I'm very much looking forward to all three!)
...and then...
-The Highest Tide. Jim Lynch.
-The Last Witchfinder. James Marrow

The last two were in the Remainders Bin. God I love me some Remainders... Ain't nothing like getting some $30.00 and $40.00 hardcovers for under $6.00!!!

Seeking Recommendations...

Well Holiday Mind Rot has well taken over. We lived on the sofa. While we didn't really do much... we didn't watch much, if any Television (since last weekend), or DVDs for that matter... What we did do, is additively play with our Wii (NGB, stay out of the gutter please!)

At this point what I can tell you is that "Looney Toons ACME Arsenal" is FUN, and even more so is "ZELDA: The twilight Princess". On Tuesday we played Zelda for well over 6 hours, and yesterday from about noon to 9 pm!!! and we're about oh... 10% in! Also what I CAN tell you is that "AMF Bowling" sucks the big ol' wang! Oh My god! So bad... We really enjoy the Bowling with Wii Sports and so thought that a stand alone game of bowling would be more interesting, more options and so on. Holy Crap, we could not have been more wrong. And just to be sure we tried 3 different games with different requirements and challenges... and in all three it was a total craptacular snooze-a-drama... That said I still will look for "Brunswick Pro Bowling", since it's got the Brunswick name, it OUGHT to be good... right? I said, RIGHT?! Alas, AMF Bowling has already found a very cosy place in the bottom of the bottom drawer of our Entertainment Unit. heh Oh well, ya win some, ya loose some, and we still have another Golf game, and "Lego's Complete StarWars" game to try.. lol

...so it should now be clear that I'm in need of some more literary involvement... I need to READ... It's been more than 2 weeks since I picked up anything more intense than a Christmas Sale flyer... I've already ordered both the books I had placed on my Christmas List, but because I bought these with a 'web only' gift certificate I will only get them by the end of next week (at the earliest). And I'm already reading one of two books I received from my parents for Christmas, so I'd like to know if any of you fine faithful blog viewers might have any suggestions as to a good read or two. I'll leave it open as to the type of book, just to see what y'all might recommend... so lemmie know...

I've twice purged my book collection. In 1991 for my move from Halifax to Montréal: estimated 300
Then again in 1999 for an anticipated move from Montréal to Dallas (Don't ask): estimated 600*
Currently it is at: 291

(* before both of these book purges I had worked at bookstores which led to the quick increase)

The History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters. ~ Julian Barnes.
I'm still not sure how I first found this book, but I recall just how equally amused and impressed I was when I read it.

Tales of the City. (series) ~ Armistead Maupin.
I devoured the original 6 volumes in a matter of weeks. Based around a group of characters in San Francisco in the 1970. And now... there is a 7th book, a mere 18 years after the 6th book. I cannot wait to read it!

The Griffin & Sabine Series ~ Nick Bantock.

A more original set of exquisitely designed, and illustrated fiction you'll never find! The 5 books follow the corespondance of the two main characters. You literally read their post cards and letters. (Going so far as having to open envalopes, remove the letters and hold them as you read.

Always been a fan of her movies and even bigger fasn of her auto-biographical writing. This one about her experiences when she decided to do the Pilgrim's walk of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

Wittgenstein's Mistress. ~David Marksen
One of THE most difficult reads of my life. I challenge you to read this. It's a total Mindfuck!

Not Wanted on the Voyage. Timothy Findley
My favourite Canadian author... and this is my favourite. I hate to say it but I'd love to see this one made into a movie.

Sons of Darkness. (Tales of Men, Blood and Immortality.) and Brothers of the Night.

(re-reads) These are two anthologies of gay vamperic short fiction. I cant help myself, I do like me some erotic gay vampy trash now and again.

The Rituals of Dinner. ~ Margaret Visser
I really love reading non-fiction, on customs, traditions, rules of etiquette and the reasons behind them all. And this was a book I'd been long wanting to read. (I'm now looking for her other book, Much depends on Dinner)
