Thar they blow...

Hurricane season is upon us and while hearing about 'Flossie' in the Pacific Region...

I got to thinking... first of all, who names anybody, much less anything 'Flossie' in 2007?! Shouldn't that name be reserved only for Flappers, or Dental Hygiene Mascots?! ...anyhoo, after I got past the shock of 'Flossie' I thought it might be interesting to give all the hurricanes in a single season themed names. So here goes...

My theme naturally, (or un-naturally) is: "the Gays". For the most part all are real people; historical figures, writers, singers, actors. There are two fictional characters (from TV) and one mythical figure (from Greek Mythology; a nod to Maria. Albeit a ribald naughty nod). As for 'Z' I had to dig deep, but lo there were a few to choose from!

enjoy...

Alexander (the Great)
Boy (George)
Cole (Porter)
Derek (Jarman)
Ellen (Degeneres)
Freddy (Mercury)
George (Michael)
Harvey (Fierstein)
Ian (McKellen)
Jack (MacFarlane) [will & grace]
Katherine (K D Lang)
Liberace (Wladziu Valentino Liberace)
Madonna (Ciccone Ritchie) *
Nathan (Lane)
Oscar (Wilde)
Priapus **
Quintin (Crisp)
Reginald (Dwight) [Elton John]
Sappho ***
Truman (Capote)
Ursula (LeGuin)
Vita (Sackville-West)
Walt (Whitman)
Xena (of Amphipolis) [xena, warrior princess]
Yves (Saint-Laurent)
Zhao (Chinese emperor 86-74BC)

* While not technically gay, Madonna has had a couple of lesbian affairs, and besides thousands of gay men want to be her.
** Priapus. Greek fertility God. Son of Aphrodite and either Dionysus, Hermes, or Adonis (hence his being a fertility god I guess!)
*** Sappho. Greek Poet. Lived on the isle of Lesbos. Liked to write about the ladies. (say no more)

Ooh Ooh! Hurricane Ursula! What a rockin' name for a hurricane! I can just picture it ravaging it's way across the ocean singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls".

hilarious!!
glad you thought of harvey & kd.
as for "Z", i might have suggested ziggy, character from starmania,
written by plamondon (double-queer here)... sappho would be one of those benign hurricanes, quickly transforming in a tropical storm; but i would flee before zena!!!!...
:D~

HEH HEH! Glad ya liked the list boys...

I think it's part of my OCD... I LURV Lists... I might have to post more soon!

Personally, I would love to see Hurricane Liberace... you know that one would be dramatic as all hell! ...AND come with a white mink boa and crystal candelabra to boot!

Funny.
Thanks for the naughty nod.

...pleasure.

it's the crystal candelabra that might wreak the most havoc, when it starts spinning...
ouch!!!

Although k.d. is a decent (or indecent) choice, you could always have gone with Karl (Lagerfeld) as a 'fashionable' choice for the male equivalent.

Bruno Laliberté said...

"MALE EQUIVALENT"????????
that's questionnable!!!
i think kd has more testosterone then karl....
i think....
:)~

I think the 'Fasionable Male Equivelant' to Katherine Dawn Lang is already on the list... under "L" ;-)

I was never a big fan of Karl.. HA! get it? FAN?! I slay me!

My tip of the hat to the fashion world was Yves St-Laurent... I find he's just a tad more refined... Karl is a little gauche and garish...

i prefer gianni versace.
call me a sentimental for 80's garish fashion, when gold was "in",
even though i don't like gold...
go figure!!
:D~

Yea he was good. His sister is a pale comparison...

What is that freak's name with the long sideburns? you know the one.... A J-P Gautier wanna-be with all the stripes....

...GALIANO! John Galiano. That's it. He's always good for a little freakish-vularity and garisness!

Personally, I like Vivian Westwood too... there's a "hippy-dippy, still a little bit stoned" sensibility to her stuff...

Oh, the fabulously flamboyant frivolity!

I'm learning a lot about The Queer Nation here. You guys/gays sure love to have a good time!

.... and we make killer cocktails!

(My rule... automatically double the alcohol...

Trust me, after having one of my drinks people just don't like regular (bar made) ones any more... )

FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINALLY! someone picked up on "COCKtails" heh! MA...! I'd luv the chance to have a drinkie drink or 3 with ya and your friend and your wee lassie N@...

SAQ... it's no coincedence there are 2 within walking distance from my place, one only 2 blocks away!

Bruno Laliberté said...

don't i know it, but i do favor the one on the corner of beaudry;
question of territory, i guess. i want the service to remain within the village. we have enough problems retaining proper services & commodities within, they all move away or just close up...
the village has more to do with coffee & junk food than anything else.
more interesting businesses don't make it here...
as for COKC-tails...
got it from the first, but didn't know you needed someone to "pick up" on it...
:D~
