Seeking Recommendations...

Well Holiday Mind Rot has well taken over. We lived on the sofa. While we didn't really do much... we didn't watch much, if any Television (since last weekend), or DVDs for that matter... What we did do, is additively play with our Wii (NGB, stay out of the gutter please!)

At this point what I can tell you is that "Looney Toons ACME Arsenal" is FUN, and even more so is "ZELDA: The twilight Princess". On Tuesday we played Zelda for well over 6 hours, and yesterday from about noon to 9 pm!!! and we're about oh... 10% in! Also what I CAN tell you is that "AMF Bowling" sucks the big ol' wang! Oh My god! So bad... We really enjoy the Bowling with Wii Sports and so thought that a stand alone game of bowling would be more interesting, more options and so on. Holy Crap, we could not have been more wrong. And just to be sure we tried 3 different games with different requirements and challenges... and in all three it was a total craptacular snooze-a-drama... That said I still will look for "Brunswick Pro Bowling", since it's got the Brunswick name, it OUGHT to be good... right? I said, RIGHT?! Alas, AMF Bowling has already found a very cosy place in the bottom of the bottom drawer of our Entertainment Unit. heh Oh well, ya win some, ya loose some, and we still have another Golf game, and "Lego's Complete StarWars" game to try.. lol

...so it should now be clear that I'm in need of some more literary involvement... I need to READ... It's been more than 2 weeks since I picked up anything more intense than a Christmas Sale flyer... I've already ordered both the books I had placed on my Christmas List, but because I bought these with a 'web only' gift certificate I will only get them by the end of next week (at the earliest). And I'm already reading one of two books I received from my parents for Christmas, so I'd like to know if any of you fine faithful blog viewers might have any suggestions as to a good read or two. I'll leave it open as to the type of book, just to see what y'all might recommend... so lemmie know...

Any one?

My son received the 2008 Guiness World Records book and he is really enjoying it (then again he is 13). They have it at COSTCO for under $20 bucks.

Now if only he could put the Wii down long enough to finish the damn book.

We have Mario Party 8 and sonny boy loves it and little Princess is not really understanding it but listening to her bro.
We also have Carnival (have not played it yet), Olympic something or other. Cooking Mama for Princess. I am OK with some games but have not had the chance to really play over the holidays yet.

Wii in crazy addictive huh? lol We're already looking at more games even though we've got more than enough to keep us occupied into the spring at least!

I have not gotten addicted to it yet. Probably because I have not had a chance to really play. The holidays have been crazy busy and work is crazy BUSIER!! So I should play sometime in the New Year. After that our Wii match is on buddy!

You want recommendations? I can give you recommendations! If only I knew what types of things you liked to read...

So here, covering a wide range of genres, styles, and target audience ages, are a few suggestions:

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson (my favourite book of all time); Jeffrey Archer's A Prison Diary (all three volumes, non-fiction); Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman; The Death Artist by Jonathan Santlofer; Raveling by Peter Moore Smith (I think); and William Nicholson's "The Wind on Fire" trilogy (The Wind Singer, Slaves of the Mastery, and Firesong -- fantasy for young audiences but read and enjoyed by lots of adults, too). That's a start...

The Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino

Life is Funny or America by E.R. Frank

I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier

and I'm in the middle of Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

I'm enjoying it! The whole first part of the book was not at all what I expected going in, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

(I have shelves and shelves of books on the "waiting to be read" list. I need to be independently wealthy just to get to them all...)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm some interesting suggestions I'll let you know what I get. Muchos for the ideas!

Me too ..and I like to get books recommended because I have this crazy habit of reading even a bad book to the end ....

Ha! I am the same way. I can only think of two books in my life that I gave up on because they irritated me. That means I REALLY didn't like them.

michael crichton's "next" was a good read, scientific novel with enough credibility. currently reading jimmy carter's "palestine: peace not apartheid". interesting if you care about politics. but then,
i've always been partial to carter, i like the kind of guy he is... humane!!

I have a whole pile of books to read, too, but at the moment I am forcing myself to read "Dianetics" by L.Ron Cultmaker. Just gotta know what these Scientologists have been brainwashed into! So, if you ever want to read something that's REALLY BADLY WRITTEN, that's the one! L. Ron fancied himself very intelligent and the book radiates smug.

On a more serious note -- anything Neil Gaiman is good. Or David Mitchell, or Terry Pratchett. I'm also reading Water For Elephants, that Ma Horton mentioned -- I have to start it again since it was buried under the beside pile for a couple of months.
