I Kissed A Girl

Um, no... I didn't Kiss a Girl... It's that new whoop-dee-do, chart-topping hit by Katy Perry. It's being played to death and getting too much attention.

It's ok. It doesn't speak to me though. Personally I kiss the boys. That's the way God intended it, and who am I to question Her decision... The song is catchy, it's a good tune, but here's the thing...

It's not original and it's snagging my craw that the press is all enamoured by her. Ouuuuu she Kissed a Girl. Ouuuuu she's so radical. Ouuuuu she's pushing the envelope. Ouuuuu what an original concept to be so forthright about a girl on girl kiss.

Yea well... I'd be more impressed if this had not been done back in, oh... say 1995. Let me refresh your memory...

The song: strangely enough... "I Kissed a Girl"

It was THEN considered a bit controversial - hey it was 13 years ago -, and yet it became a main-stream hit, thanks to the tad campy video staring Fabio as the clueless boyfriend of the sapphic explorer...

I liked the song. I loved the video. I bought the CD. Sure it was sappy and folksy and camp, but well... welcome to my world...

And I'll tell you this I much, prefer it to the Katy Perry version, and every time I hear it now on the radio I get a little irked... Every time I hear it, it's like that Jill is being kissed off...

So all I ask is the next time you turn up the radio and sing along with that oh so clever girl, remember, she's just rehashing something from last century.
