Earth just got a little more drab,
Heaven got a little more frisky.

If you've not seen the bio-pic "The Notorious Bettie Page" I'd recommend it, now, more than ever.

A warning to all dead fashionistas...

...be they in Heaven or Hell. Your days of peace and quiet in the Afterlife are over...

Mr. Blackwell has passed on and he's looking for you.

Among some of his best zingers are:

Madonna: "The Bare-Bottomed Bore of Babylon."

Barbra Streisand: "She looks like a masculine Bride of Frankenstein."
(My FAV)

Meryl Streep: "She looks like a gypsy abandoned by a caravan."

Patti Davis: "Packs all the glamour of an old, worn-out sneaker."

Ann Margret: "A Hells Angel escapee who invaded the Ziegfeld Follies on a rainy night."

Camilla Parker-Bowles: "The Duchess of Dowdy."

Bjork: "She dances in the dark - and dresses there, too."

Britney Spears: "Her bra-topped collection of Madonna rejects are pure fashion overkill."

Those were the days my friend...

...we thought they'd never end.

Looks like the party is over for diabetics and coffee... *sigh*

This is extremely sad and depressing news. I'm by no means an addict, but I generally have at least one cuppa joe in the morning with my breakfast. On the weekend I'll have 2 or 3 to start the day... Alas, no mo'.

Looks like me and NGB are shit outta luck for a cup of happy with out breakfasts from here on end, because lets face it, decaf is for pussies.

R.I.P. - Molé no mo

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of a much loved pet Molé.

When I went to the bowl to feed Guaca and Molé and Salsa this morning I was dismayed to find Molé sleeping with the fishes, or NOT swimming as the case may be. Attempts at fishy CPR (banging the bejezuz outta the bowl) only appeared to upset Guaca... or maybe it was the loss of his long time companion that was at the root of his frenzied contidion... then again if you were swimming in the same water as your recently deceased domestic partner you'd be freaking like a fish outta water yourself, non?

Alas, all this to say that Mole is no more. A private burial at sea was preformed this morning at 8:45am.

Moses or NRA?

How do you remember Charlton Heston?

As Moses.. leading the chosen people out of bondage...

or as the President of National Rifle Association?

It's a tough call ain't it!? Two, so VERY different faces of the same man.

Watching the Ten Commandments is just something you do on Easter Weekend. I cannot imagine Easter without Chocolate or Charlton Heston as Moses. There's just something about that so, so, so very over the top epic. and even as much as I deplored his stance as president of the NRA. I'll write off the whole NRA thing to senility...

Me, I'm gonna remember him as Moses.

And lest we forget...
Planet of the Apes.
Ben-Hur.
El Cid.

Au revoir M. Salvador

I just learned that Henri Salvador has passed away.

Sad sad news.

I was introduced to the musical genius that IS Henri Salvador a couple of years ago by Didier, and I've had the joy of intrroducing many to his music since, including many in my office, friends and my parents. Mom and Dad especially enjoyed his music, even though they didn't really understand any of the lyric since he sings predominatly in french. He had a magically hynotic so-soothing voice.

While I do not know all his music, I can highly recommend the following CD: Chambre Avec Vue.

If you want a CD you can listen to over and over and over again, play while entertaining guests, while relaxing on your balcony or terrasse or at the beach, on the sofa reading a book or on front of the fireplace, or for an intimate evening alone with that someone special...

...as a matter of fact, if you are still looking for something for your loved one for Valentines Day... go out and buy this CD you'll very happy, and so will the recipient... and you'll have also made Henri smile up above.

Sad.

What can I say. This is sad. I'm not sure why I'm so shocked about this but when Didier and I watched the evening news last night and they announced that Heath Ledger was dead, we both reacted in the same way and in unison, with an aspirated "Nooo".

While I'll admit I enjoyed Brokeback Mountain, it was not so much that it was a 'big screen' portrayal of a gay love story (although it didn't hurt), it was because it was an incredibly well done film; the acting, the story, the images... those great wide mountainous vistas. Truly though, it was one of the final scenes that impressed me most with the film and Ledger's acting; the one where he's in Jack's boyhood room and finds the blood stained shirt in the niche. I found that the most remarkable... the emotion and the depth of character he portrayed in that scene was truly impressive. It's sad to think that his career and life were just really beginning. That scene left me even at the time thinking just how great an acting career he was going to have. And more impressive still that he and Gyllenhaal took on the roles in the first place, as it could have easily been a career ender.

It's sad to think that his career and life were just really beginning. He was only twenty eight years old. Twenty eight... that's a full 10 years younger than myself. I have to say that left me gob smacked! Still does.

But it wasn't just Brokeback that I enjoyed. I have to say I enjoyed many of his films, including:

Casanova (we saw that a week before seeing Brokeback Mountain) - no Academy Award winner for sure, but a fun movie. Light, frivolous.

The Order - a sort of Occult/Paranormal drama. Entertaining and enjoyable.

But it is A Knights Tale I think I enjoyed most of all, I guess because I really enjoy a movie (whether serious or not) that so impressively juxtaposes a period piece with modern music (Marie Antoinette also springs to mind in this genre) A great cast and, yeah, I'll say it... he was so handsome.
Even in these movies, he showed that whether the plot was serious or camp, and everything in between, that he would give a good performance.

He'll be missed, and by no one more than his family and especially his young daughter Matilda Rose.
