Even Steven

I swear, you cannot make this stuff up!

Overheard while walking home tonight…

Mother:
“That’s it Steven! I’ve had enough. I carried you for nine months. Labour was 12 hours. I gave you life. You WILL respect me!”

Steven (of indiscriminate teenageness):
“Well you didn’t die giving birth to me, so I guess that makes us even.”

CLAS-SIC!

You have got to be kidding me... thats what the kid said?? OMG, I would have given him such a BACK HAND.

After that I would have called child protective services myself to pick him up and let him live somewhere else and see how he likes it!

Kids these days, I tell ya... I would never have replied like that to my parents and if I ever did I would not be here to talk about it. Know why? Because of good ole' fashioned ass whoopings.

I agree that kids today are not scolded, spanked, and good old medeterannian-slaped op the back of the head.

As for what the kid said, to tell you the truth if my Mom ever tried that "I gave you life" bullshit I'd have likely replied the same, or said, "well thats what you get for not using a condom..." like the kid ever requested to be created? like they had any real input into the labour.

PLEASE!

Play in the fire, you're gonna get burned. Parents that hold the childs birth over their head do NOT deserve respect for it.

For the mother to get to the point that she had to say that I can only imagine what that kid said to get such a reply.

Also, what you mentioned would have been your reply, and what that kid said is totally unacceptable. "Well you didn’t die giving birth to me, so I guess that makes us even.”

What a stupid, ungrateful little brat!!

Again I say that for any parent to dangle the child's birth as a guilt inducing or respect demanding device is out of line.

Add to that, all teens rebel ALL of them, some more or less but that is part of what the teenage years are about, coming into your own, pushing the limits, testing the boundries...

That said I did not hear the conversation up to that point. One of them for certain was out of line, but lets not omit the possibility that Mommy Deaest might also be a total bitch... in which case... it's a case of monkey see, monkey do...

wonk... wonk... wonk... I always wanted to do that. LOL

No matter what --- a kid needs to be RESPECTFUL... and vice versa.

However, a kid needs to have respect for their parents, if they do not respect their parents they will never learn to have respect for anyone else. I have seen it happen too many times.

True, but one EARNS respect, one does not DEMAND it.

I respect my parents, but not because they 'brought me into this world' I can assure you that was not anything NEAR their mind at the time...

I respect them because they treated / treat me with resepct, allow me to make mistakes and never demanded. They love me and they accept that against all odds I will turn out as I will, and that no matter what their hopes or expectations I will of course shatter some and expand others in my own time in my own way...

I would have sang "No Charge" by Ms Tammy Wynette, or failing that slit the little bastard's throat, roll him up in an old carpet and chuck him in a canal.

I'm with mitzi and I say that in the nicest way that a mother can say it!

NO, ONE DOES NOT DEMAND RESPECT... BUT KIDS NEED TO BE RESPECTFUL WITHOUT US HAVING TO DEMAND IT. Parents put food on the table, clothes on their back and a roof over their head... it should be enough to never warrant such a rude remark.

Now, don't make me come their and punch you.

Respect is LEARNED. Who teaches it? PARENTS. How? By example (in other words, by respecting their kids).

With all due respect to both Maria and Kitty, that's all I have to say on this matter.
