40 non-fizzy days (and nights) *
It's not that I'm religious ('Cause I'm not... at least not in any traditional Judeao-christian form) but I quite regularly give up something at Lent... I used to do it to appease my Father, but now I do it to challenge myself.
This year I've sworn off the Soda Pop.
I'm a total carbonated drink freak. There is usually Ginger-Ale, Coke Zero and on occasion Fanta Red Tangerine, Fresca or Mountain Dew in the fridge. But as of last night I am Soda Pop free (with the exception of Tonic... Me and Jesus are good with that)
I am already looking forward to April 11th more than you can possibly imagine.
Anyone else stupid like me and give up something?

* It's actually 46 days... those damn Christians don't seem to count Sundays...

Man, I'm already not doing so many things other people are giving up (meat, pop, sugar, chocolate, coffee, cigarettes, junk food etc., etc.) I don't really know what's left. I'm going to go see about giving up work for 40 days.. run that by the old boss...
Maybe what you gotta do XUP, is take up one of those things...
What if you're already perfect and have nothing to give up??!! ;) peace
I gave up religion for Lent.
then you take something up Leonard...
libhom, then once lent is over you're going back to being a bible thumper?
I'm Baptist so I don't believe in such things but just to be nice and to play nicely I gave up Lent...no more Lent for me...at least for the next forty something days.
So like, are all Americans Godless Heathen like you three?
40 days of no 'Orangina' or 'Tahiti Treat??' No way could I do that! I'm going to give up fast food, well except for Subway, because that doesn't really count. Does it?
Lent and New Year's resolutions are both lost causes for me. So I made a resolution several years ago not to make any resolutions or to give anything up for Lent.
So far, so good.
mister kitty: Bibles are useful for thumping...thumping cockroaches.
and pressing wild flowers?
Usually us "greek people" are suppossed to give up meat for Lent. My mother likes to remind me every year that includes ALL MEAT!! Hubby is not too happy with that request and lucky for him I am not all that religious.
Thank god I'm not greek then! I'll just love your food and furry men.
And I thought (based on My Big Fat Greek Wedding) that Lamb is not meat...
lol!!!you don't eat meat??? i cook lamb...
and americans are godless heathens..
Oh my yes I do eat the Meat....
Yeah lamb doesn't count as meat... yeah right. Then again, I don't plan on getting it on with a lamb so what difference would that make?
Maria, what you do in the privacy of your bedroom is between you, your hubby, the various farmyard animals and god...
love the edith prickley picture! fabulous!
I might give up QT (Quick tea just add hot water and voila a milky tea) and go back to using teabags, or failing that I could give up blogging.
Don't you DARE give up bloging! Don't MAKE me come over there!
Wait, when does lent begin?
AGgie... on Wednesday... You're late!
larry: Lamb is yummy, and everyone is godless.
Mitzi - dear lord, do NOT give up blogging!
I never know when Lent is. I'm SUCH a good catholic. I guess calling Pope Ratz a Nazi isn't considered funny to some of those uptight Catholics.
Giving up soda is probably a good idea. Does 7-UP count? That's all I can drink as far as pop goes these days. Dark pop somehow is the bane for kidney stones.
I don't do lent anymore. As an American, as Larry stated, I'm a godless heathen, although I prefer the term godless bastard. :) I used to go by Godless Liberal.
I'm rather amused but this ... seems I was like the only one that knew when lent began... and if you had to label me I'm Pagan. I've heard of a Lapsed Catholic but good lord... y'all are impressive!
And PB... 7-up is soda!
wait, lent already started? what the hell?
my catholic mother sucks for not telling me ;)
