FRAUD

Last night on my way home I went to with drawl some green from the ATM. Alas at the 3 different ATM I tried, all attempts were declined. WTF? I'm not Rockefeller but I know I've got at least a couple hundred in that account.

I get home, log into the Web, check my account and lo, I've got the funds. Just then my Man says "There a message on the phone from your bank". I don't like the sounds of that. Then I listen to the message from their Fraud Dept.

I call the bank and lo and behold, my ATM card was cloned and they motherfuckers tried to take out $500.00 (the standard daily limit on your average ATM card) Well the joke's on them cause I ain't got $500 in the account. The bank called because they saw multiple attempts on many cards for the same amount at the same ATM machine. So they cancelled my card.

While it's nice to see that at least some of the fees I'm paying for are worth it.

Of course now I'm left with having to spend my lunch break to go pick up a new card at the bank. AND...I don't know where or when the cloning took place (I went back over the last 3 months transactions and all are kosher from my POV as they are places I regularily do business) which is a REAL pisser because I prefer to use my bank card to pay for things If I carry money I'll spend it; well now I'm not going to trust ANY debit swipe machine be it in a store or in a mall or even at a Bank because they cannot even remove that from the equation. Now ALL are potentially guilty of aiding this fraud...

I'm not happy at this feeling of mistrust of something so basic. I'm already so pissy about so much, I don't know if I've got the time or the piss to add this to the list.

Welcome to the club buddy.

Last yeat, my ATM card was also cloned right before Christmas, how convenient is that? I am happy I made just one person's holidays brighter... really I am. F***ERS!! Lucky they only made off with about $500.00 before my bank caught on. On that day, I went to the bank to withdraw some $$ for sonny boys b-day gift, in Montreal. About 15 minutes later someone else with the "cloned" card tried to withdraw $$ in Rigaud and the bank thought "how could she have gone from Montreal to Rigaud in such a short period of time? So they froze the card.

The next day my bank calls and I am oblivious to the entire situation and they tell me to come in and get a new card. However, my account will be frozen for 3 weeks until the investigation in complete. Well, with it being right before Christmas I was glad I had other accounts with the bank and they even told me they would loan me $$ without interest if I needed it. How nice. Lucky I have a good relationship with my bank otherwise there would have been no Santa that Christmas and I would have been up the creek without a paddle.

The bank ended up paying me back the $$ the thieves stole from me it just took a few weeks.

So, I feel for you. Its just a hassle going through all the bullsit. Make sure to run a credit report on yourself through Equifax (I have the paper if you need it) to make sure they did not do any other damage.

Go ahead and be pissy about it, Kitty. You of all people should know that there is no limit to pissiness.

How can people be so effin' evil?

With all the crap we've been hearing about American banks, it's comforting to hear that Canadian banks are doing something right. I love my bank -- I lost my wallet, not once, but TWICE in December (once probably dropped, once probably stolen) and it was amazing how quickly they froze and replaced my ATM and credit cards. Quick, efficient, polite service. LOVE that bank!

Wow Maria! December no less!
Yea well, I was lucky in that they attempted MORE thn I had so they got nothing from me... and the Back cancelled the card before they could try anything else.

And the bank was really nice today when I went for the replacement card, even though it was not my branch.

Cheryl, you need to put a chain on your wallet like all the skateboarder kids! w00t w00t!

Bobbie.. I think today is my time of the month, I'm in SUCH a mood!

I hadn't noticed any difference. You're still shooting from the hip as per usual, and that's a big part of your charm.

I'm sorry to hear that. My friend had her card cloned too and surprise surprise it was an asylum seeker from Romania, called Abu something or other doing the dirty deed, the theiving bastards! He only got 2+half years, in his own cuntry he'd have his dirty hands chopped off. What a soft touch we are here! The bank had the nerve to charge her £25 for being overdrawn! She got it all back in the end.
