iPoppy v1.0

So after not buying a Poppy Pin for the past 3 years (only because I couldn't find any Veterans selling them) I bought a Poppy yesterday... and summarily lost it on my way to work today.

Well I won't have any of that! So I bought two more tonight on my way home and gave one to Didier. He's never worn one before.... It's not a tradition in France apparently...

Having spent so much time in the Veterans Hospital last week, while visiting my Grandmother, I'm glad to have found a Veteran with a table full of Poppies...

So, do you Poppy?

I poppy every year, several times cause I too loose it right after I buy it. I swear there must be a poppy ghost!

These people put there life on the line all those years ago for US. Least we can do is give them a few bucks.

I'm half convinced they grease the pins! ;-)

"Grease the pins"?
...That's just dirty.

My Dad fought in both the Second World war and Korean War. I always wear a poppy, and have a big one on my Facebook page right now. We need to tell the next generation what they did for us, or no one will remember. It'll be written in history books, yes, but it's bigger than that. They preserved the world for us, and we have to start doing a better job of looking after it.

Lest we forget

... and I know it's still early, but aside from the Veteran I bought the Poppy(s) from, I've not seen anyone else wearing one...

I think it's become somewhat customary to wait until November 1st to start wearing a poppy. Don't know why. Guess some people want to keep their 'occasions' in order, and they feel Hallowe'en needs some prior attention.

Ya know, I was thinking that, but was hoping that was not the reason... so I decided against supposin'...

Still, hope it's not...

...ESPECIALLY considering the dollarstore in Berri Metro put out EASTER decorations/merchandise as of LAST FRIDAY!

We got a phone call during our 11pm news last Thursday night, complaining that our anchors aren't wearing poppies yet. I explained to the cranky old fart (even crankier than me!) that our news director said we will start Nov. 1, but he wouldn't hear of it, and said it was disrespectful and unacceptable.

Well I say if they're avalable, they ought to be worn.

I think it's a personal choice. It's not a 'celebration' - like Christmas, or Hallowe'en, or any other 'holiday'.
It's a 'Remembrance'. It's done to honour those who fought - not just those who fought and died, but anyone who served, or who continues to serve.
Some people get caught up in thinking that it's about the dead, and therefore see it as a slight and disrespectful if they don't witness them being honoured.
I think they're wrong for feeling that way, but, as I said, it's personal - and more personal for some than for others.
It's up to the individual when they begin and end their remembrance through the wearing of a poppy.
Me, I'm lucky. I remember what my father did every day - poppy or not.

for me it's like chistmas, it's not a day... it's a thought, a feeling, a beleif, a season. it's not just a minute of silence, it's rememberance and thanks and like you said it's for those that came before and lived and died and those that live on, and those now and yet to come...

I finally saw another Poppy on the commute home. It made me happy to see it.
