The 4400
When Didier returned from Québec City last week (Tuesday July 10th), he had the first two seasons of a show called 'the 4400' on DVD. Our friends Jeff and Stef lent them to us. They sat on the table for a day, and then on Wednesday night (since we didn't go to La Ronde because of the weather) we slipped one of the disks in the machine and watched the pilot. Well, it was instant addiction for us.
Now let me say this. I'm not a fan of Science Fiction. Rarely does a movie or TV show with a Sci-Fi bent entertain me, very much less impress me, but This show did! I think because it's not all about spaceships, so many other inhabitants of other planets and solar systems all looking a but too much like humans and universal decoders, di-lithium crystals and worm holes solving every problem (no offence to Star Trek, you've obviously have your fans)
The first episode starts with a 'comet' racing toward Earth. Countries around the planet send nuclear missiles at it to save the planet, but they have no effect at all, and the firey ball continues to head toward the Earth and it's unavoidable destruction... but... the balls stops and hovers just over a lake near Seattle Washington, and then suddenly implodes. After the dust (literally) settles, you see the 4400 standing on the beach and shoreline. They are all missing persons from the last century from all over the globe. They are all instantly put in quarantine and so the show begins...
The first couple of episodes are all about setting up the main plot lines, the good the bad and then strange. Seems some of the 4400 have new special abilities. Special healing powers, telekinesis, prophecy, heightened strength and so on.
Questions remain. Who took them? Who returned them? Where were they? What was done to them? and so on. At first, it would seem they are leaning toward the popular Alien Abduction, but near the end of Season One you find out it's actually humans from the future that perpetrated this in an attempt to save the Earth from some other destruction. Although not clear yet, (at least as far as we are now into Season 2) it's seems that it's due to some combination of over population, raping and pillaging of the Earths natural resources and so on...
The 4400 were sent back, some with good and some with possible bad powers, and of course none with instruction manuals. It's up to The National Threat Assessment Command (NTAC), a division of the Department of Homeland Security to figure out whats what. There are your two main investigators Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris - a la Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
In fact the show is a bit like the X Files in that every episode has a different 4400 or two being investigated. Trying to understand just what they can do and how it not only affects them but all those around them. And then there are larger story lines continuing every episode. And just like the X-files you have lots of government cover-up and otherwise wrenching the works.
While there are some occasional hard to believe moments in the plot and the 'powers' of the 4400, it's otherwise rather believable and set in the current day.

If you come across it, WATCH IT!

My only real issue here is, up til these DVDs, I have never seen or heard of this show before. It airs on the USA Network (not one that we get) and it does not appear to be on any other channel we know of. So for now we continue to watch the DVDs of Season 2 and soon Season 3, and then like our friends in Québec City we'll have to wait for Season 4 (on air now) to come out on DVD...

I'm getting jelous...where's MY kiss??
2 words:
- Girl
- Cooties
... nothing personal.
:-)
Can I have a kiss too even though I don't watch the 4400 and I didn't help you find it on a local station?
;)
my, my....
what's that???
such a reaction for a kiss...
M-K,
better give them all a collective kiss,
they'll have feel better!!
:D~
i did watch the first season, but then got hooked on other series, such as "heroes" & "the triangle", und so forth...
but space for me is a great channel.
i really like sci-fi...
when it's good!!
:D~
come on, M-K,
spread the joy!!
time for a group hug!!
:)~
HUGZ
Well lets see...
...you ARE a boy...
...so, um, OKAY!
The Triangle... never heard of it. Heros, I've tried, lord how I've tried, but I just never got into it.
My old roommate watched a LOT of the Space channel but only all the Treks and Battlestar Gallactia.. yea I hear it's better than the original but it's TOO 'spacey' for me...
okay, okay...
("")(,,,)(,,,)("")
...that my friends is a Bear Hug...
Consider yourselves hugged!
:-)
the new B.G. happens in space, but it's not about sci-fi, it's about social issues, political debates,
personnal ethics.
it's people, in exodus, dealing with adversities...
could happen in any settings.
don't get blinded by the sci-fi label attached to it.
it's really not the main focus here.
i LOVE B.G, or actually B.S.G.!!!!
:D~
HUGZ
That's what I hear, but I just can't do it. I've tried. Pete, the old roommate, was always trying to get me to watch it, I'd try and try and try... but it just never took.
I could over look the SCI-FI of Star Trek the Next Generation... and just enjoy the commentary of the story lines on our society...
But I'm blocked on the BSG
so be it...
there'll be other series for you to enjoy, for sure...
:)~
I'm with you on the SciFi Ticklebear! Love it. Can't get enough of it.
Oh, and thanks for the hugs and kisses! xo
I am still jelous... jb got a hug and a kiss and I only got the chance to be a part of the group hug!! BTW, I don't have cooties! and if I did they would be cute cooties!!
@ maria

Doncha worry I gots me a good set of chomppers.
did i signified any objections????
:D~
told you to be careful...
;)~
I'd suggest we tie him down first, but me thinks he'd likey too much!
you don't need to tie me up. i can be quite obedient...when the mood strikes me!!
strange that we went from the "4400" to bondage......
:D~
me likey!!
Me too!
Abduction and bondage!
Me nips are all pointy...
Lookey that, ME a straight gal is having a conversation with two gay men on bondage and abduction.
So lets get the party started fella's... maybe you can teach me a thing or two to try on hubby next week for our ANNIVERSARY!
Best bondage do's & donts...?
Lets hear hear it.
Better yet.. why not give us hubby for the weekend! You know... just to test his limits so that way we can better asdvise you...
;-)
How did I know you were gonna give me a smart ass answer like that? lol
Not so sure he would be a willing participant though but hey you can take your chances. Guess Didier & I will hang out while YOUR busy "hanging out" with my husband?
Well, personally, I don't mind if he's not so willing... (at first)!
MUAAAAAHHHHHH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
you are an evil, EVIL CAT!
EVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!!
FUNNY BUT STILL EVIL!
Didier might be jelous though of your extra curricular activities... hope he's not the jelous type!
He'd want to join in.
Trust me.
huh? Let me get this straight? I might regret asking this question but what the hell.
Didier would not only be OK with you with someone else (not necessarily my hubby here) but he would want to join in?? Guess exclusivity is not an issue for you guys?? I am learning more by the moment you are an evil, evil CAT!
that's shocking?
Once in a while an extra body or two makes for an entertaining evening.
:-)
ain't that the truth...
I would like a matthew mcconaughey for my next intresting evening please!
DIT-TO!
At work Kelli, the gal next to me, and I have 3 pics of him looking all delish at the beach...
OK change my order to one delish pic (or more) of him at the beach sans vetements s'il vous plait!!
Too bad the off-spring has a game tonight and I will be basically getting into the door at home and running right back out... otherwise hubby would be in for quite a treat!! This convo has gotten me all chaud!! lol
Well I can be over there by 7. I'll bring the KD and some restraints.
;-)
maybe i should remind you kids that bondage, or more largely so, s&m, doesn't necessarily imply penetration & cumming.... it's all about control, restraint, granting & denying....
if it may assuage maria about all this....
s&m is not rape.
it's being brought to your limits, & then, one step over, just one, to heighten all of your senses...
:D~
so maria, hubbie could actually enjoy this, without feeling all queered out.
:D~
food for thoughts!!
HUGZ
Thanks for the info Ticklebear!!
Thanks for the S&M description. I do feel like a kid next to you.
In any case, I don't know about other men (or should I say homosexual men) but the straight dude I know - does not know anything about control, restrain, granting or denying. I won't get into any more detail cause I am starting to blush!
Have a good night.
wham-bam-thank you m'ame!!!??..
:D~
crack that whip!
@ maria:
grow your nails & use them...
;)~
I didn't say I don't know...
wink ! wink!
and I DO have nails and DO use them!
good!
some guys like to bear "the marks"...
makes them look naughty....
the bad boy image, you know!!!..
:D~
Some like to give AND receive those marks!
;-)
you 2 are nuts!! absolutely crazy... funny... but nuts!!
Mmmmmmmmmmm nuts.
I rest MY case.
i ain't nuts...
more like cashew....
:D~
Mm cashews... Im a chocolate covered (salted) cashew... Mmmmmmmmmm Chocolate and salty nuts. :-)

:)~
