Roller Coasters, Androgynous Cartoon Idols and All the Bugs You Can Eat

...And thus went Sunday Afternoon.

La Ronde opened it's doors LAST weekend, but then what idiots would go over to La Ronde in the miserable cold and rainy weekend that was? No. We waited til this weekend, and boy howdy, did we pick a great day!...

Blue sky as far as the eyes could see, a nice 22'C and not THAT many people... at least the overly obnoxious tweens n snot nosed teenagers were at acceptable levels.

We actually started the day with Brunch at Chez Cora's with Jason and Franco. It was after all Jason's birthday. And he doesn't look a day over 35 [*cough* 41 *cough*], and THEN we went to La Ronde...

We also got Season's passes and got a decent deal too. $75.00 instead of the $81 and change. And if we coulda found two others it would have been only $65, but even still since a daily entry is already $38, we're more than breaking even on the second visit. And considering we'll be there likely 4-5 times... money in the bank!

As this was Jason and Franco's cherry poppin' visit to La Ronde, we bee-lined over to Le Monstre. While the wait was a tad long (about an hour) - because only ONE track of two was open and the asstards only had one car running instead of two, it was well worth it cause it's a great old wooden number.

The only REAL down side is the fact that we are directly at the height f Shad Fly season and La Ronde is on a low laying island in the river. As soon as we made the initial drop, arms in the air, doing our best opera imitations, screaming our fool asses off, I think all four of us swallowed about a pound of the dam bugs. A tough lesson was quickly learned... keep your mouth shut.

We then went on over to the Goliath and were able to go on it twice in about 40 mins, which was great, because the Goliath is the most amazing ride there. And fortunately there were not a lot of Shad there, I guess because this is an extremely open structure as compared to the other roller coasters that twist and wind in on themselves and offer lots of shade for the BUGgers...

After a bit of strolling we rode the Vampire, another great ride, sadly INFESTED with the shad, so by this point we called it a day...

But not before we were able to answer this most intriguing of Animated Mysteries... What does Fred Flintstone wear under that man sized orange and blue fur suit...

...the answer ....

So apparently Pebbles was adopted, just like Bam-Bam... Who knew?!

From there we went home for a wee bit then headed over to friends Kenny and Richard for a BBQ to polish off 4-5 bottles of wine with other friends Ric and John and to again, help Jason celebrate his 35th [*cough* 41st *cough*] Birthday.

Fan-tab-u-lous weekend people.
Fan-effin-tab-u-lous.

So what did y'all get up to?

We went to Plattsburgh and I discovered that they actually have a Victoria's Secret at the Champlain Center. I bought a few little naughty numbers to bring to my cousin in Greece as gifts since she is getting married in September. Then we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and did some shopping. We then headed to Ponderossa for lunch and ended with a visit to Price Chopper to buy Haagen Hazs ice cream (we brought a cooler) 3 containers of Haagen Dazs for $9.99. Compared to $6.00 each in Montreal. We also bought all sorts of other groceries and snacks that we don't have here. Organic juice is a real hit with my kiddies. Hubby bought a Pomgrenate and Green tea drink that is only 70 calories and delicious! He also bought a nice pair of shoes and some socks. Princess also bought a few things.

When we crossed the border they let us through without charging us any duty or taxes. We didn't spend that much only about $140.00 for the 4 of us in goods and then about $150.00 in groceries. However, there is no limit on groceries.

Have a great day!

BTW, any news on where to change EUROS. I usually go to to Globex (in Westmount) or Calforex (downtown). However, my aunt said its better to just change a bit of cash to get down there and then exchange the balance in Europe as they offer a better exchange rate at destination.

Mmmmmm shopping! and I love Bed Bath and Beyond, especially the Beyond part.

Euros, no still looking into that. So your relatives say take Canadian and exchange there!? I'll look into that as well. A co-worker that is going to Italy at the end of the week and the exchange was 1.58. YUCK!

Yes, my relatives say to exchange in Europe. I called Calforex this morning and the exchange rate is at $1.5750. I am thinking I will exchange about 500 EUROS since we have a stopover in either Rome or Frankfurt and I will exchange the rest in Greece. I managed to buy about 30 EUROS from a co-worker who had some left over from a recent trip to Turkey but not sure that will be enough for the 4 of us to grab a bite. heh!

When you guys leaving?

NGB you need to come to Mtl and go to la ronde... let the wind blow through your hair, and by 'hair' I am referring of course to your back hair... I assume it has all grown back now??? ;-)

Having met NGB I really can not picture him on a roller coaster.

So Bobby are you into roller coaster's?

I lived in la belle province for two years and i never went to La Ronde.

I just don't do rides. (insert joke)

Shad fly=nasty.

I remember heading down to old montreal one day and we were overrun!

if there's one thing this bitch doesn't do, it's bugs.

blah!

Not into big bad roller coasters. It's not terribly puking on yourselves and others around you. Almost as bad as getting smacked in the mug by a goose, a la Fabio.

I think it's all related to the stigmatism that has had me wearing glasses or contacts since I was 6.

Shadflies, shmadflies. You should be in North Bay in July (right, T?). They're freakin' everywhere. At night, you have to drive down Lakeshore Drive as if it was an icy winter night, cuz the road is covered with shads and driving over them and crushing their guts out makes the road as slippery as if it was coated in ice.

Oy, youse guys in Munreeall don't know from shadflies!
