IdFLQ - HONG KONG

Ok, well. The fireworks tonight WERE an improvement over last Saturday's, but well, then so would throwing a few sparklers up into the air...

Tonight was Hong Kong, and as a Chinese competitor, you expect a lot, and I mean a LOT. A few years ago the Chinese had fireworks that looked like 3 dimensional cubes. PHENOMINAL. You see something like that and you really want to see something as equally impressive. And it seemed that Hong Kong was well on their way...

Their opening was impressive. Large, high, colourful, and the music was up-beat. A few minutes in, you saw that they were were 'writing' on the sky. What they were writing was 2 0 0 8 The year the Summer Olympics will be in China. Now I'm on the fence on this... on the one hand, I was impressed with the creativity and thechnique to not only get an '8', but even more so a '2'. On the other hand, I was a little turned off on this being used even remotely as an advertisement for the Games.

Overall, the display was good, but I found it really failed to impress through the mid-section. It was a little too repetitive... 5 minutes of the same design and colour combination and you lose me... and repeat, repeat, repeat...

Their Finale was quite nice. Not as bombastic as I like em but as strong as their opener.

Ok enough babble, on to the pics...

It starts...

Me likey the purply-pink ones...

OK, now THIS is phunkadelic!...

Interesting, no?

Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........

Sometimes small is impressive! ;-)

Getting close to the end...

Fi-nal-e!

And now...
Four competitors down...
Our scores are as follows:

GOLD: England
SILVER: Hong Kong
BRONZE: Spain
And then you have...
Mexico

well... I LIKED IT!!!!!
:D~
though it's true about the repetitions. i tired quickly of the smileys at the beginning, one once in a while is cute, a whole lot, well...
i was pleasantly surprised.
i guess i was still reeling from my mexican experience.
i also like my pics.
they're posted as of now...
BTW, you missed the bottom part of the firework. i don't take pics 'cause the bridge is in the way somewhat, so, kinda ruins any pics, but it was well worth watching...
so,
I LIKED IT!!!!
:D~

Oh, don't get me wrong... I liked them too, but I ust felt they didn't carry through their strong opening. And I get bored quick. I LOVE Fireworks but I need to be entertained continually... when it comes to Fireworkds I have A.D.D. you gotta have a lot of flash and sparkle to keep my attention.

They are currently in Silver, as far as we are conscerned.. England was just a little more cohesive and consistent, anf their music was just damn great.

What I DIDN'T mention prior, that I should have was how in sync Hong Kong was to thier music, albeit some annoying as a car alarm!

We can see a bit of the fireworks on the water but the bridge ruins em for us too so I don't bother.

Nice of 'em to have fireworks for Dider on his birthday eve.

I'm hoping to get across to Gatineau next month for the fireworks competition at Casino du Lac Leamy.

I might have mentioned this before, but have you ever seen fireworks in winter? In South Porcupine (yeah, where Ma and Pa live and schlep donuts), the big finale to the winter carnival every year is fireworks over Porcupine Lake. I think the cold, crisp air makes 'em even brighter and more dazzling. Add to that the reflection off the white snow (okay, yellow after Karma and True have done their bidnid), and you've got two shows, two shows in one.

Here's to more aaahhh-some fireworks.

We have friends with a condo in Gatineau, across the river from the Capital and his balcony looks directly at the casino. And from his Dining room you can see the Hill. He's got great views of both We'd like to see the ones there at the Casino too. So many Fireworks, so little time.

As for Winter Fireworks we see 4 sets each Sat in Dec from our roof. They take place at the Christmas/Winter Festival in the old port. and you're right, the crisp cold cleat winter air makes em even more impressive!
