Tippy would be happy...

...but I am not.

Yesterday when I arrived at work I saw a dead bird on the grass at the foot of the building. A cute little thing. It's neck obviously broken by flying into the building.

Then today, four more little things.

It's that time of year when birds are migrating south.

I spoke to my Office Manager to speak to the Building Manager to ask if we can dim more lights, or better yet turn OFF the lights at night. What purpose does leaving office lights on 24/7 accomplish anyway?!

Our Office Manager said "It's for security."

I said, "Isn't that what the alarm systems are for? and the Cameras?"

She said "Well, some people work in the evening."

"At 3 in the morning?!" I inquired.

At this point she realized that I wasn't giving up... and I didn't even get a chance to talk about wasted energy and carbon emissions... heh

She said she would report this to the Building Manager. I added that they might want to collect the birds, as they will only attract rats or raccoons or god knows what else...

Seriously WHY are office buildings always lit up at night?

Anyone?

Some people are just sooooo stoopid. Lights on full 24/7 "for security" on, say, the 15th floor of a security-guarded office building. Sheesh.

Birds, cost, carbon emissions, etc. are only the tip of the iceberg why they lights SHOULDN'T be on.

A couple years ago, Ottawa City Hall was lecturing other people about wasting power and money by leaving lights on. But our news department noticed that lights at City Hall burned well into the night. So we had our freelance night crawler drive by City Hall every hour or so all night, and shoot video of how the lights were kept on all night.

Sometimes, you just gotta hit people over the head with a shovel. And you, Kitty, always have a big ol' shovel in your back pocket, dontcha?

Good on ya. And on behalf of the birdies, thanks.

Birds are always flying into my windows often breaking their necks in the process. No sense! I hate pigeons.

Good idea N@ thanks!

NGB... IT really confounds me... and living downtown mtl you wonder ... We seldom have the lights on in our living room, there's enough light coming in through the windows...

Mitz... Pigeons? TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOtally different story! ;-) (ok not really) I feel sorry for em, but only just JUST marginally... N@ on the other hand LOVES the pigeons! Dontcha N@?
